MISSION
Small World News is a documentary and new media company dedicated to providing tools to journalists and citizens around the world to tell stories about their lives.
ABOUT
Small World News was inaugurated in 2005 with its first project Alive in Baghdad, and today it continues to spread across the globe. In Iraq we produced weekly video packages on citizens’ daily life, but have since expanded to include a number of services beyond video, including audio interviews with audience participation (Alive in Gaza) and viral public access for user generated content (Alive in Tehran).
Our staff has been producing video and web journalism for 10 years including video documentaries and audio interviews from places as diverse as Iraq, Mexico, Afghanistan, and China. Our work has previously been featured in mainstream sources like Sky News, BBC, and Newsnight. We have production teams in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kenya, as well as a broad array of citizen journalists, contacts, and coordinators in Mexico, Afghanistan, Honduras, Liberia, Syria, Iraq, Kenya, Gaza, and Nigeria.
Small World News is about empowering global citizens to share their stories with the world, and provides a place of education and interaction for anyone interested in the real life political, military, economic and social situation in their world. Above all, we are devoted to assisting people all over the globe with sharing their stories with the world in a personal, candid and non-bureaucratic way. We endeavor to cut through the red tape and politics of corporate news and deliver the real stories, from real people, everyday.
Beyond providing access to our public citizen journalism tools, Small World News has also been supporting, equipping, and training community members and under-served populations to become journalists, storytellers, and documentarians in order to broaden the geopolitical perspectives available to the international community. We specialize in assembling projects quickly, securely, and cost-effectively. All of our services are available to the mainstream media on request.
