Alive in Honduras
Alive in Honduras aggregated and translated reports from citizens on the ground in response to the attempted coup in 2009. Later a partnership was developed with Habla Honduras to provide English translation of their content and others.
Coverage in a Crisis
In June 2009 the Honduran military ousted President Manuel Zelaya on orders from the Honduran Supreme Court. The national crisis prompted widespread popular demonstrations and reaction from the military. Human rights abuses were reported by monitoring organizations, and press freedom was severely curtailed. Alive in Honduras was created to allow news from Honduras to reach the outside world despite restrictions, censorship and repression of traditional media outlets.
