An open source app for making and publishing multimedia stories with any Android phone or device, as safely and securely as possible. StoryMaker provides an interactive storytelling training guide, walkthroughs, and templates for users to follow as they plan their story and capture media. The app then helps assemble the content into a finished format that can be shared directly with social media or anywhere– no computer editing station required, even for video!
Mobile Community Zimbabwe (MCZ) is a project that gives ambitious young Zimbabweans a voice and a platform to share and exchange information through mobile phones, video and social media. Using the StoryMaker app on Android-enabled smart phones, the MCZ project equips young Zimbabweans from across the country with skills to use their devices to tell compelling stories about themselves and their communities.
Alive in Baghdad employed Iraqi journalists to produce video packages each week about a variety of topics on daily life in Iraq. Through the work of a team of Americans and Iraqi correspondents on the ground, Alive in Baghdad showed the conflict through the voices of Iraqis. Alive in Libya, established in March 2011, is the only source of free and independent news created by Libyan journalists. The project is produced by Small World News:Libya bureau, currently based in Benghazi. Utilizing a team of a full-time staff in Libya and the US, and volunteers located around the world, Alive in Libya produces video and articles focused on the daily life of Libyans. Alive In Egypt was created after Google and Twitter introduced the @speak2tweet dial-to-tweet service. Both companies wanted to see these phone conversations translated into English (most were in Arabic) and asked outside organizations for assistance. Alive in Afghanistan began in 2009 as an effort to provide more context to the coverage of Afghanistan’s presidential election. Through sourcing reports from Pajhwok, Afghanistan’s leading local news agency, Alive in Afghanistan helped shed light on the massive fraud that occurred. Alive in Gaza was started in January 2009 to assist in the gathering of analysis and factual information about the situation in Gaza in one place. All issues regarding Palestinians and Israelis appear to be highly polarizing. Alive in Tehran provided Iranians tools to produce and distribute media. Small World News worked with Iranians in Tehran and around the country to disseminate their voices by recorded phone calls, videos, photos, and blogging.
