Well anytime anyone starts telling you "what people want" Im all for doing the opposite. Im sure there is an audience for this just as there is an audience (many whom have yet to be reached) for real reporting from Iraq by Iraqi's. But, getting the funding.. for anything journalism related.. is where I never have answers. So YES this would be invaluable to have.. but the funding.. oooh the funding.

Western news consumers want the voices they know and trust providing them with their news. Local voices have no value, they are not trusted by the viewer to be impartial. In fact, they are not even trusted by the news corporations to be impartial.

Also, western news corporations want their own angle, the BBC dont want the same angle on their dispatches as AlJaz, similarly with CNN and elsewhere. Thus local coverage, even without voice-overs, is fairly worthless.

All this was proven by the massive questions that were asked of western media during the recent conflict in Gaza. When all the content was sourced from locals inside Gaza the viewer stopped trusting what they were seeing, hence the debate surrounding impartiality of CNN and BBC's coverage. The Israeli's knew that would happen and took advantage of this, banning international journalists.

The idea does sound nice on paper however, but it doesn't stand up - in my opinion.
